Acute Bacterial Prostatitis
A bacterial infection is a common cause of the severe condition known as acute bacterial prostatitis, which manifests symptoms suddenly.

- Frequent Urination
- Trouble Urinating
- Cloudy Urine
- Pain around penis and testicles
Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis
Chronic bacterial prostatitis is a less severe bacterial infection that happens to older men. The symptoms may often come and go. The causes of chronic bacterial prostatitis are often linked to UTis in men and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). An STD screening can determine the cause of chronic bacterial prostatitis.
Some of the common symptoms of chronic bacterial prostatitis are:
- Painful ejaculation
- Painful urination I
- Frequent urination
- Blood in semen or urine
- Pain around the lower back, genital areas
Chronic Prostatitis or Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS)
Chronic prostatitis is also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). It is the most common type of prostate inflammation triggered by stress, injury, irritation of the nerves, or other medical conditions.
The common symptoms of chronic bacterial prostatitis are:
- Painful ejaculation
- Painful urination
- Pain in the lower back
Men with asymptomatic prostatitis do not display any symptoms.
Diagnosing Prostatitis
Different types of prostatitis require different tests, such as urine tests, blood tests, ultrasounds, or X-rays.
A doctor may perform a physical check for prostate and lymph node swelling.
To improve the test sensitivity, please hold your urine for at least 2 hours and abstain from any form of ejaculation for 3-5 days before your doctor appointment.
Treatment for Prostatitis
The underlying cause of prostatitis determines the treatment methods. They may include:
