Is Premature Ejaculation A Concern?

Premature ejaculation may become a concern when you:

  • Frequently ejaculate within one minute of penetration
  • Almost always unable to prolong ejaculation during intercourse
  • One or both of you feel distressed about this issue hence affecting sexual intimacy

 

What are the Causes of Premature Ejaculation?

The causes of premature ejaculation can be a combination of psychological & biological.

Psychological causes

  • Sexual abuse
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • History of sexual repression
  • Unrealistic expectation
  • Low self-esteem & confidence

Biological causes

  • Erectile dysfunction*
  • Infection of the urethra
  • Inflammation of the prostate
  • Abnormal hormone level

*When you are anxious about maintaining or obtaining an erection during sexual intercourse, you might form a pattern of rushing to ejaculate. This pattern can be difficult to change.

  • Pause- Squeeze Technique
  • Counselling

 

When to See a Doctor?

There is no 'magic number' given to define how many minutes a man must last' before he is considered to have PE, but most experts agree that it is unlikely for a couple to have satisfactory sex if the man ejaculates before 60 seconds.

However, if you have any or all of the following, you are advised to see a doctor.

  • Frequently or always ejaculate within one minute of penetration
  • Almost always unable to prolong ejaculation during intercourse
  • One or both of you feeling distressed about this issue affecting sexual intimacy
