Genital warts (Condylomata Acuminata) are mainly caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Type 6 and 11. Genital warts are round cauliflower-shaped fleshy growths about 1- 10 mm found on the genital areas. Genital warts treatment involves freezing (liquid nitrogen), podophyllin toxin and tropical cream.

 

How are Genital Warts Transmitted?

Genital warts can be sexually transmitted from close skin-to-skin sexual contact with an infected person and by sharing of sex toys.

 

What are the Symptoms of Genital Warts?

Genital warts are one of the symptoms of HPV infection. Genital warts are painless cauliflower-like flesh bumps. It may also cause itch and discomfort. Genital warts are slow-growing.

What are the Various Types of Genital Warts Treatment?

The main goal of genital warts treatment is the removal of the genital wart. This treatment does not eradicate HPV.

Genital warts treatment involves the use of medication, or surgery for the

  • Removal of genital warts
  • Removal of anal warts
  • Removal of penile warts
  • Removal of vulvar warts

Do note that the virus can remain in the skin cells even after warts subside, so warts can return even after treatment.

 

How Do I Prevent Genital Warts?

The risk of HPV infection can be lower with HPV vaccination. HPV vaccination is suitable for males and females.

The new 9-valent vaccination is useful in preventing the 9 common strains of HPV. The HPV vaccine is indicated for the prevention of diseases caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45 52, and 58.
